Extraordinary-

Saw the movie "Imitation Game" and realized that some people are so lucky to live such extraordinary lives but the biggest tragedy is that they never realize it. Or may be they do but the people surrounding them make their achievements look trivial and make them look inconsequential. I can only hope that one day I will be given a chance to do something which will be remotely useful and may be, just may be important for someone rather than just existing and living my otherwise pathetic useless waste of a life!

Top 5 movies of all time-

Someone at work asked me my top 5 movies of all time that I have seen. Got me thinking, here is the list and why I like them (in no particular order)-
Fight Club - Script, Concept, Screenplay
Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - Unbelievable editing
Inception - Screenplay, Concept
Memento - Concept, Screenplay
Old Boy (original Korean version) - Original script

Atleast this is what I could think of after careful deliberation of 1 day.
Some notable mentions-
Shawshank Redemption
Prince of Egypt
The Dark Knight
12 Angry Men
Godfather 2

P.S.
I think Chris Nolan is easily the best director of this generation and arguably the best in last 70 years. I think he beats Copolla, Zemeckis, Steven Soderbergh, Clint Eastwood, David Russell etc easily and David Fincher marginally. The difference between their movies is that script is much stronger for Fincher BUT the screenplay and execution of Nolan fkking beats the crap out of any other director! He also uses Hans Zimmer brilliantly, much better use of soundtracks then anyone else.

About Alex and me-

"About Alex" is the latest Hollywood movie I saw and really liked. No coincidence that it is about stuff which I really care about, feel strongly about or have written about.

The movie is about this guy who tries to commit suicide and then later bails on it but calls upon his college friends to give him support. 5 friends (obviously with history with each other) reach his place and everyone reacts the way they know to without really realizing that almost all of that reactions are stemming from that past history. The movie hits upon themes of closet homosexuality, casual sex, immature relationships in college, abuse of prescription drugs, depression, fear of commitment, professional failure, jealousy apart from suicide and friendship which are obvious ones given the plot.

I could relate to pretty much everything (i know what you are thinking - barring that one!) in this movie and I kind of have gone through all this already in my life through one form or the other.

Casual Sex - I vehemently recommend it, it takes away all inhibition from life. It takes away your license to judge and liberates you from any high moral grounds that you may be subjected to. Coming from a small city like Chandigarh where exposure is low and the concept of sex is still very "you have to do it with the chosen one", I had all these bullsh%t fundas of sex being the most powerful force blah blah. Then I met someone who was exact opposite of me and I realized how constricting these fundas are!

Immature Relationships - well i am quite immature so all my relationships are by default immature too. But yeah college ones were definitely insanely childish and imbecilic. The obsession, the reactions, the drama, the tension, the pseudo "seriousness" - now that I think of was of utter nonsensical proportions.

Abuse of prescription drugs, depression - the less said about this, the better...i was asked to remove this part

Fear of commitment - everyone has it, who doesn't. Especially at young age, who wants to commit? rather who even knows what commitment is? As opposed to what women think, it is to keep options open, it is not. It is to keep a level of detachment, it is a means to keep a level of casualness to something which otherwise spirals into mind bending epic waste of time.

Professional Failure - hahaha...hahahhaa...this i am a champion of! OMG! Those people who have never gone through failure in job / career / studies can never understand the intensity of the feelings which emerge when you have sustained, continuous, never ending professional failure. And can never fathom what it does to one's psyche, one's confidence, one's perspective to life.

I am getting bored writing this post because it just brings back such useless memories which I have tried so hard to forget. Anyway this was a great movie, i will definitely watch it again sometime.

Why does no one like...

Deepika Padukone? seriously...what is wrong with her? everytime someone hears me saying i like her, i get a standard response - "she is so dumb ..maaaaan"
so...as opposed to the other bournvita quiz winners we have in this field?
i think she manages pretty well to look yummy on screen and does fairly high % of entertaining movies as compared to non-entertaining ones...i really dont care if she is not able to tell me all the mammal names starting from Z backwards to A (another question i was asked recently...the guy probably saw the movie phenonomenon whr travolta uncle does this stunt...so in case anyone gets curious on answer, watch the sequence).

Food for thought-

My boss sent an email around asking why are long end Peru bonds cheaper than brazil and much so than indonesia... so i thot...

why do couples fight...only 2 reasons...either to brk up or to have hot make up sex...but then why do long distance couples fight...either to brk up or...no sex possible...why not just not fight in long distance and conceed a point easily...stay peaceful and conceed a point...that 1 hr conversation/chat can easily be managed...but then why do couples which stay together not just do that...idea is to not conceed a point and keep staying together and keep conceeding...so...net solution is?

EM funds have greater allocation to indonesia > brazil > peru hence the price action is more severe in that order i.e. tighter spread...

random? thr will be blood and no country for old men got best motion picture academy... mine should deserve a nobel...

Jake Gyllenhall-

Cum on guys...so what he did a gay role in brokeback mountain. u can't label him one for the rest of his life. (yes ..yes i know he played the bitch in it and not the butch as if that would have pacified you hatens). he is now here to redeem himself with the movie Love and the other drugs. I personally liked the movie specially watching it with a cute kudi who was acting shy, clueless what is happening and irritated on why I am laughing so much everytime the doctor feels Ann Hathaway's boobs! Movie has some of the most graphic scenes without showing the proverbial "V snatch" or the guy's "mojo machine". But otherwise it has all, positions, clothes getting torn up, remorseless cool sex and most importantly my fav theme "hunter gets hunted". Bataya hai laundon ko ki ishq mein andhe mat ho...but nahin....KSML.

i think a definite checkout of the movie is a must, paise wasool!
